Private Helicopter Pilot License Training

This course is designed for the individual who does not want a commercial helicopter pilot license, but would like to fly for private or leisure use. If you are not already familiar with the requirements to achieve a private helicopter pilot license in Canada, please review the content below. There you will find the knowledge and required flying experience necessary to earn a private helicopter pilot license (PPL-H).
PPL-H Requirements:
17 years of age
Obtain a Category 3 Medical
Complete PSTAR exam (Procedures and Regulations exam)
Acquire a Restricted Radio Operator Certificate - Aeronautical
English Proficiency evaluation
Complete 40 hours of ground school which includes topics such as air law, theory of flight, meteorology, navigation, human factors and flight operations.
Accumulate 45 hours total flight time with minimum of 17 hours dual instruction and 12 hours solo practice. Flight training includes exercises such as straight and level flying, climbing and descending, turning, hovering, hovering maneuvers, take-offs and landings, emergencies including autorotations, confined areas, navigation and basic instrument flying.
Achieve 60% or higher on a Transport Canada written exam (PPHEL)
Successful Flight Test!
