Mountain Training
This mountain training course meets the HAC (Helicopter Association of Canada) competency guidelines which is also recognized by the BC Forest Service. The total flight time for the course is 20 hours.
Ground school includes:
Topography and formations
Weather and wind
Density altitude vs. helicopter performance
Reconnaissance, approach and departure techniques including side hill pads, mountain top sites and operations from ridges and saddles
Hazards and illusions
Physiological and psychological factors
Flight training includes:
Advanced emergency procedures
Precision handling techniques
Confined area operations
Illusion recognition techniques
Reconnaissance, approach and departure techniques including side hill pads, mountain top sites and operations from ridges and saddles
Wind effects and contour flying
Slinging and snow operations
Total price using the Robinson R44: $18,450.00
*The flight time is charged at $875.00/hour. *Ground school: $950.00.
For the pilot that does not want the full mountain course but would still like to learn some basic mountain flying skills, Elevation Helicopters offers a basic mountain course which takes 5-10 hours to complete. This option is most common with the private helicopter pilot.
Longline Training
(Vertical Reference)
This longline training course is offered to the pilot who wants to enhance their knowledge and skills of external load operations. The total flight time for this course is 10 hours.
Ground school includes:
Pre-flight of helicopter and equipment
Proper rigging of loads
Helicopter performance and stability of loads
Regulations and safety considerations
Marshalling signals
Flight training includes:
Advanced emergencies
Maximum weight performance and techniques
Delivery of the hook/load
Oscillating load recovery techniques
Solo practice
Total price using the Robinson R44: $8,750.00.
*Price includes fuel & ground school.
*Based upon the pilot's skill level, less flight hours may be required.
Recurrent Training
This recurrent training course is designed for commercial or private pilots who want to refresh their knowledge and maintain their flying skills. It is recommended to do this 1-2 hour course on an annual basis.
The course includes a review of:
helicopter emergencies
helicopter limitations
regulations, airspaces and weather minimas
weather and NOTAMs
in-flight emergencies, including autorotations
confined areas
The flight time using the Robinson R44 is $875.00/hour. Price includes fuel.
Ground school review is $500.00.
